  • Psychotherapy

While she is a specialist in human development with years of training and experience, Dr. Mai approaches her clients as the real experts and helps them identify and articulate their experiences, while focusing on their strengths. Together they work to find creative solutions to problems that arise. Dr. Mai uses an integrated approach to therapy, incorporating psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, EMDRfamily systems and mindfulness approaches into her work. Depending on the developmental level of the client, Dr. Mai often collaborates closely with parents and schools.

  • Neuropsychological Evaluations

Dr. Mai conducts comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescents who are struggling in school. In the process of the evaluation, she identifies and communicates her client’s strengths and weaknesses with the important goal of finding effective ways to address presenting problems.

  • Parent Consultations

Parents often have questions and concerns about their children’s behaviors, social relationships and mental health. Dr. Mai helps parents navigate issues that arise in the course of child development, frequently focusing on such areas as challenging family (and sibling) dynamics, major life transitions, technology rules, meal time challenges and bedtime concerns. Dr. Mai works with parents to distinguish between the often dramatic expressions of typical development and areas in need of intervention.

  • SPACE Treatment

SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety and OCD. SPACE was developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center for anxious children who are resistant to treatment. Using the SPACE model, Dr. Mai helps parents to gain the skills they need to help their child overcome anxiety by focusing on supportive behavioral change. Child cooperation and participation are not required. SPACE has been tested and found to be effective in randomized controlled clinical trials. Dr. Mai has received training from Dr. Lebowitz.

  • Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)

PRT is an evidence-based treatment that helps clients retrain their brains to accurately interpret and respond to signals from the body, in doing so breaking the cycle of chronic pain. Dr. Mai is a certified provider of PRT.
